Pelt mapping
Here we are using pelt mapping on a cloth hood. Download this source file.
First you need to establish your seams. Let’s go right up the middle as there can be a seam in the fabric ... pretty convenient!
In point to point seam mode, you select the first vertex in the seam, then to the next farthest one you can get to, and so on, until you get to the end of the seam. It is somewhat like target weld, in that there is a “rubber band” effect. The blue line is the pelt seam. You can turn off the usual green seam if you want.
Hit Pelt, then the most obvious alignment, then, edit pelt map.
This takes you automatically into pelt mapping.
Experiment with Light and Heavy Relax, and then Simulate Pelt Pulling.
Select the other side and give it the same treatment
If stretcher appears to be “crossed” ... select the stretcher under select:
Next hit mirror horizontal
Now we are lined up better
Center stretcher over the head
Simulate pelt pulling
Mirror this second side and scale it down
Check for overlapping faces
Correct them
There might be some areas you can make vertex selections and use the usual Relax Dialog.
