Press Q twice to turn to the select mode, which is useful to work just in small portions of hair.

The color texture is dark brown for the back of the head and the sides, and gets dotted with orange variations as it gets near the hair streaks at the top

snap to face so when you draw the guide splines that come from the skin

try starting with one of the presets

press and hold B to resize the Brush

make sure you are in brush mode

select hair ends

the hair here are 2 sets of polies, one is less dense and the cut is shorter near the tear duct side. the polies were detached from the head, mesh smoothed, collapsed, and only a slender loop of polies used to grow hair. no splines used.

Move the mouse, nothing down, with Ctrl R to rotate view in Style Hair.

Make smaller polies and use attenuate for shorter hair.
