ZAppLink

As of this date, (early June 2007) we are waiting for an updated ZappLink to work in ZBrush 3.0..... this shows 2.x.

Extract the zip file. Move the contents of the ZApp Link folder to the ZStartup/ ZPlugs directory.

(If there is no ZPlugs folder, create one.)

Shows up under Document in ZBrush:

Run an STL check on your mesh.

In ZBrush

Preparation
Import your mesh/ZTool
If not previously UV'ed in another application, do AUV or GUV

Choose a ‘base’ color from the Color menu ...

.... create a new texture ...

Create a Morph Target
divide the mesh to the necessary number of divisions
back down to level 1
save your ZTool

Return to the highest level for texturing ... apply a basic material ...

Set Adaptive Tiles, AUV Ratio = 1

Create some basic texture, or let ZB create a texture when you go to drop in PM.

Projection master

Paint!

G toggles drop/pickup

ZAppLink:

Set Tool/Display Properties/DSmooth to a value of higher than 0 to fade the pickup from Projection Master to reduce jaggies.

‘Drop’ your mesh to the canvas
Colors and Fade ON only

Locate the ZAppLink plugin (under the Document menu), and choose your method of layering in the external application you plan to use.

Use the Unshaded + Color Adjustment layer option

This color adjustment layer at the top provides an extra 'template' shaded image of the mesh above the unshaded background layer.

This will help position art accurately ...

Remember, we are waiting for ZappLink to work in ZBrush 3.0.....
2.x shown below, this time with the unshaded layer only:

Paint on the background (or more cautiously, on a new layer above) and save ...

Accept changes (if you approve!)

Pick Up (hit G) and rotate to examine ...

We will notice our texture is now updated as well:
