Maya: intro to polygons

 

Create/Editable Poly/Torus

Let’s make a polygon and select some faces; here are the subdivisions I set in the Attribute Editor

 

 

 

We have to click this manipulator to get the pivot in the right place:

 

 

 

Now we can extrude by pulling on the yellow handle in the center:

 

 

 

If you go Polygons/ ... and make this setting, the faces will separate as you extrude on their Z axes:

 

 

 

You can extract a shape, it is like detach in Max ...
Edit Polygons/Extract ...

Once again, you need to click the little yellow manipulator to get the result you want.

 

   

 

If you go Display/ ...  ...

... and set up borders and other settings for the polygon’s view:

I set up borders to a very high setting:

 

 

 

You also have a shortcut icon in the polygon tab:

 

 

Go crazy with extrude, rotate, etc., just like in Max:
