MATS Explosive Crate

 

New 512x512 PSD file.

 

Resolution = 72.

 

Copy boards to PSD from image provided, woodpic.jpg from chapter 4, Dark Art of Game Texturing, or locate your own images,

 

Bevel and drop shadow on the boards. This makes a lot of layers all with the same filter.

 

If you make a little space between each board, you can get away with merging them down and applying the filter once.

 

Make 2 variations, one with stencil type. Here is an approach to the worn text on wood.

 

Rasterize the text.

 

Make an alpha channel of the rgb values of the crate without the text.

 

Use levels to get something like this, lots of contrast:

 

 

Load that as a selection and delete to cut into the type.

 

Mess up the type more by erasing with a rough brush here and there. I also erased at the edge of the top board.

 

 


Apply Unwrap UVW modifier. Edit.

 

 

Size for texporter

 

 

Drag copies of your crate art to cover different squares ... resize with “T” transform and shift to constrain. Drag variations of your art into place over the color boxes.

 

 

Apply as a diffuse map material.

 

Box with one side complete.

 

 

 

Optional: make a file with the wood the same, but no type. Make this the bump map for a stronger wood texture.
