Make your storyboard and animatic

Make break-apart [segmented] character from your model sheet

SCRIPT

ANIMATIC

720 x 540 pixels is the aspect ratio for TV

Think of it as a comic book.

Basically an animated storyboard

Use Layer folders

Guide layers – do not render in final animation [modify/layer]

Use pose-to-pose setups

IF you transfer flash to video go to 25 fps. Otherwise stay with 12 fps.

Black Matte: rectangle tool, line to none, fill to black, top layer, make very large black rectangle to extend past the stage

Second layer of top of that one, fill to red exactly the size of the movie stage, position 0,0 ... copy/paste the red on the black and hit DELETE

CAMERA MOVES

Pan

In 3d, the pan is the camera turning around, often along the horizon line. In 2d we have to move the backgounds laterally.

Trucks and Zooms

A Zoom uses the camera lens

A Truck camera simply moves in [you can see some examples like Jaws where the camera trucks in on the subject but the bkgrnd stays still]

To make a truck

Make one layer for subject, one for background

Foreground “grows” toward viewer

Slowly center out the background, make sure the center point is int eh center

Camera shake

Put the entire animation into a nested symbol and move it a little

Fades

Cross-dissolve

Fade to black

SOUND

Add sounds to animatic

Individual lines of dialogue and effects

Event sounds – good for sound effects that you re-use. Works like a symbol.

Sync is not great, poor for dialogue.

Streaming sounds – use this for the animatic – you can scrub the file and hear the sound

Add a layer called dialogue

Some tips

Turn symbol into a silhouette – set briteness to 0

Backgrounds – color cards

Explosions, red blue yellow flashes 8-24 frames

Don’t use bitmap backgrounds

Tight shots, simple bkgrnds
