Moving the pivot point

In edit mode, move the object like this:

Now go to Object mode and rotate in local:

Center to cursor

In object mode

This moves the pink center to wherever the cursor is

If we have this in Edit mode:

And go back to Object mode ...

Center new ...

The center point moves back to the object,

the object itself does not move.
